Four Avenues of Service - Vocational Service

All Amesbury Rotarians are leaders in business or their respective professions.  One purpose of Rotary is to serve the community by sharing knowledge about vocations available in the community. 

Amesbury Rotary Vacational Service Projects include:

Shadow Day

An annual Shadow Day is organized by the community to introduce Amesbury's high school freshmen to the vocations of Rotarians.  The Rotary members volunteer to have one or more students shadow them at work.  They answer the young people's questions and at a Rotary luncheon the students get a chance to tell the rest of the Club what the experience was like for each of them. 

Opportunity Works Support

Amesbury Rotary's relationship with Opportunity Works  goes back to the very beginning. Rotarian the Reverend Earl Young's sister, Elizabeth, was one of the first client's of Opportunity Works.  Earl took the lead in organizing a Christmas party and played Santa Claus for Rotarians and our Opportunity Works guests. Since then, Amesbury Rotary has continued its support for Opportunity Works.  Rotarians have also lent strong support to the annual Opportunity Works TV auction which plays a large part in publicizing and funding the work of the Opportunity Works each

year.

Educator of the Year Award

In 1983, the Amesbury Rotary Club began recognizing the Educator of the Year.   Nominations are sought from the community-at-large, including students, parents, and teachers.  Nomination boxes are set up in all of the schools as well as throughout the town.  To be eligible the candidate must teach in the Amesbury Public Schools for at least five years. Click here to see the list of recipients of the Amesbury Rotary Club Educator of the Year award.
